Campus Environment is
a department of ASU’s Underground Student Government. Our goals include:
educating, motivating, and organizing students in order to create a more
sustainable campus encompassing recycling, transportation, food, housing, and
goods & services. We achieve these goals through outreaching to the ASU
community, providing recycling and composting services at ASU events, hosting
educational events, organizing collaborative community groups on bold action
campaigns, and working with ASU staff and administrators in order to create
campus policy and programs to better serve students. This department has an
emphasis on student voice, providing an outlet for those seeking opportunities
to better ASU.
USG Campus Environment is unique in its
structure, as it is responsible for a subset group, Green Team. This serves as
the volunteer force of Campus Environment. Green Team collaborates with
organizations such as Students of Arizona Network for Sustainability (SANS),
Greenpeace, Public Interest Research Group (PIRG), and United Students for Fair
Trade (USFT) in efforts to identify issues that are important to students,
address them, and determine the most effective means of a solution. Green Team
is an open-membership student group that is welcomes volunteers throughout each
semester.
Natalie is a
sophomore from Wisconsin, enrolled in the School of Sustainability. During her
first year at ASU, she served as an intern in USG’s Campus Environment
Department. This year, she serves as Director for the department, where she
organizes the legendary Green Team. This group mobilizes students to create a
more sustainable campus encompassing areas of recycling, food, housing, and
services. She welcomes volunteers with open arms, and encourages members to
take an active role in the organization.
